The Research Center of the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts and University of Niš, in collaboration with the Organization for the development of scientific research in the field of philology and humanities “Litera”, is organizing the 3rd International Symposium titled Art in Context: Migrations. PhD students and young researches are warmly invited to take part in the conference to be held on September 2, 2016 at the University of Niš (Room 8).
Over the last few years, in the midst of politically and economically motivated movements by people, the term migration has come to the fore in the heated debate in mass media. Our aim is to host a group of young researches in the field of philology and other humanities who are interested in examining the artistic treatments of migration. We welcome papers that explore the works of art addressing the theme of migration (either real/historically documented or imaginary migrations). Also of interest are the studies in migrant literature and the artistic production of authors in exile. In addition, topics may include the migration of motifs through different artistic representations, the transmission of artistic forms, styles and movements through different national and cultural traditions, as well as the means of such migrations (translations, adaptations and other narratives).
The contributors are invited to deliver a 15-minute presentation. Each session of three or four successive presentations is followed by a 30-minute discussion.
The working languages of the conference are Serbian (and related languages – Croatian, Bosnian, and Montenegrin), Bulgarian, Macedonian, Polish, Czech, Slovak and English.
The participants are invited to fill in and submit the application form by August 20, 2016 to [email protected]. The participants will receive a notification of acceptance shortly afterwards. Participation fee in the amount of €10 is required (to be paid upon registration on the day of the conference).
The participants are asked to send the final version of their papers, as well as the abstracts in English, bibliography and key words, by May 1, 2017. Academic papers are then submitted for anonymous review. They will be published in the conference proceedings by the end of 2017.
